We’ve officially had the doors open at our new 635 Johnson St. location for over a week now. The new space is twice the size of our old shop and we’re already making great use of the extra room. A second change room and expanded seating area have streamlined the shopping experience and the added square footage means we have more product available than ever before. The white walls, high ceilings, and large windows give the space an open feel and allow the items within to speak for themselves, while the raw steel floor and hundred-year-old tin ceiling create a unique contrast between the industrial and ornate. We also couldn’t be more excited about our new neighborhood and the stellar line up of independent shops and restaurants we now call neighbors. We still have a lot of work to do over the next month to get things looking the way we want, but we hope in the meantime you’ll stop by and let us know what you think.

We are excited to introduce the first installment in our 4HS Artist Series project. The city of Victoria has long been a gathering place for artists, designers and other creative types. Over the last four years we have been lucky enough to form relationships with some truly talented members of our community. This project aims to provide an alternative platform for these artists to showcase their work, as well as an opportunity for us to offer a unique product to our customers.
Each t-shirt will be produced in limited quantities and will feature artwork created specifically for this project. Accompanying each shirt is a signed and numbered print of the featured image. Every artist is given complete creative control over the final product and is directly paid a portion of each sale. The t-shirts used have a slim fit and are made of a soft, lightweight cotton that will age wonderfully.
We are proud to present 4HS Artist Series No.1 with our good friend and photographer Chris Taylor, featuring his black and white photograph entitled Ice Cream Gothic.
Chris Taylor is a photographer who lives on Vancouver Island, BC. His work has been exhibited in numerous locations including The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, The Alvarez Bravo Photography Centre in Oaxaca and Gallerie Mycroft in Paris. He has been published in the New York Times, Vice, Inventory as well as Steidl and 0-100 editions.
T-shirts are available for purchase in shop now, and will be made available online next week.

With the explosion of denim culture in recent years indigo dye has been thrown into the spotlight. The naturally derived dye has been used on garments for hundreds of years, and is celebrated for it’s distinct blue-violet colour and unique fading properties. Indigo tends to look good with just about any colour you throw at it, but our favourite way to wear it is paired with more indigo. This stack of items showcases the enormous range of shades available, as well as a variety of applications. From terry cloth sweatshirts to jersey tees, from washed out denim to painted chambray, indigo remains unmatched in its versatility. The best part of all: the more you wear any of these pieces the better they look.

With the sun finally deciding to make an appearance here in Victoria, it’s time to start pulling out the Summer pieces. Despite the bad rep they’ve unjustly earned in recent years, the short-sleeved button up shirt is one of our favourite warm weather options. The key here is a slightly shorter length and a slim sleeve (a single cuff helps with that). A bright pattern or interesting fabric doesn’t hurt either. Click more… for some of our top picks from A.P.C. and Wings + Horns.

With days still alternating between clear skies and rain clouds, we thought it was the perfect time to highlight a Spring look. Our friend Tim stopped by to model this weather appropriate outfit made up of some of our favourite pieces of the season. The lightweight parka will keep you protected from the elements without adding any unnecessary warmth or bulk. The cotton knit and madras shirt add colour and texture to an otherwise neutral outfit. Twill pants, cargos in this case, are a great transition piece between heavy denim and shorts. Suede footwear is a Spring essential and a canvas bag is the perfect accessory to house those extra layers as you shed them throughout the day.

A.P.C. Denim has been a staple in Four Horsemen for the last three years. This Spring; however, marks our first season with the Apparel side of the line, and we couldn’t be more excited. Jean Touitou founded Atelier de Production et de Création in 1988 as a reaction to the baggy cuts and heavy branding of the era. A.P.C. has come to embody a minimalist aesthetic, with an emphasis on fit and fabric; a philosophy which has prompted many contemporary lines to follow suit in recent years.
This season’s collection is highlighted by a deeply saturated colour palatte. Steel Blue, Anthracite, Indigo, and Navy are accented by natural tones such as Tobacco and Ecru. The result is a cohesive collection that looks as good head-to-toe as it does paired sparingly with other pieces. Underlying it all is an elegance and effortlessness that is decidedly A.P.C.
A.P.C. garments are not sold directly online, but can be viewed here . Please contact us for details on how to order.

It’s no secret to locals that Victoria has some of the best vintage shopping around. With this in mind we have decided to add a carefully chosen selection of previously worn items to the shop. These items will maintain the aesthetic of the shop, while offering the chance to purchase unique pieces that each have their own story. The first item up is this pair of perfectly worn in Red Wing Moc Toes in a Size 6. Though they are available in shop only for now, we will be adding a web component as more great pieces find their way into the store.

We also wanted to highlight the fact that, despite being a menswear store, we have our fair share of regular female shoppers. We asked our friend Ali to model in order to show how a properly sized men’s piece (or two of three in this case) can be the perfect addition to an otherwise feminine outfit. Next time you are shopping for your boyfriend try on an over-sized flannel or cardigan for yourself and be sure to pick up the latest issue of The Gentlewoman.
